Think about all the problems that are solved when the criminal is removed from the population. We don't ever have to worry about him or her again. He will never abuse any more victims, never rob a bank, or steal a car, or murder anyone again. He is destroyed and gone. This is the argument presented by those who support the death penalty. Now this is not a political forum to address a controversy, but rather a challenge to our thinking...because when Jesus was crucified, "the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him." (Isaiah 53:5) Those who crucified Christ enjoyed a short rest because they thought He was removed from the scene through His execution. But only three days later, surprise! God had a different plan. We may think we have things all figured out, when really there is a God in heaven who is in absolute control!! If you think you are totally beyond hope, and no one can help you out of your situation, think again... God has a plan for your life. The devil will wear you down and confuse your mind, but Jesus died to defeat evil and bring us confidence in God. Removing the sins of the world would introduce a worry-free environment. It would bring peace...and when the enemy is finally destroyed, when the death penalty is sentenced, we will be at peace! This is a promise to remember when you are attacked by evil forces and victimized by the tricks of the enemy, who seeks to devour and destroy your soul. Do not give any room in your heart for debate: Do good and not evil. Seek peace. Go after what is right, and treasure the peace that settles your mind. Know that God will judge, and one day the enemy will be removed forever! Now that's a punishment that brings peace to my soul.
