Find out where you can get help from other Christians

Depression hits many teens as they are growing up. In fact, I am not sure that I know any teens who have never experienced some form of depression between the ages of 12 and 20. For some teens, they overcome their depression quickly, and for others, it takes years to overcome. In fact, some people never conquer their depression.

While I am not a licensed counselor, physician, or psychiatrist, I do know that some types of depression can be treated with medicine, and other types cannot. Sometimes it is necessary to talk to a counselor to overcome depression. If you are depressed, then you should talk with your parents, a school counselor, or your youth pastor about seeing a professional counselor.

Many teens are scared to see a counselor for fear of being singled out as weak. This simply is not true. Many people see counselors, and many counselors even seek help from other counselors. I have seen a counselor several times, and I am never hesitant to recommend to others that they see a counselor as well.

Counselors cannot solve your problems, nor can they give you all the answers. Good counselors are good listeners and help you to find the answers for yourself. Christian counselors help you find the answers that include God. Many counselors are not Christian, however, and leave out important spiritual discussions that need to take place. I would recommend trying to find a Christian counselor. Your pastor or youth pastor, can probably recommend a good one.

To the right, under Elsewhere On The Web, I have listed several links to Christian Web pages that deal with the subject of depression. I suggest that you follow these links to determine how God can be involved in helping you overcome your depression. Some of the links under From Other Guides, lead to secular links for help with depression.
