MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY

UNICEF UK joins coalition to Make Poverty History in 2005

UNICEF UK is joining the biggest coalition of charities and development agencies ever formed in British history. With 30,000 people still dying needlessly every day, more than 1 billion people living on less than $1 a day and more than 100 million children unable to go to school, the coalition, ‘MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY’ (MPH), is using the opportunities offered in 2005 to call for an end to global poverty and injustice.

UNICEF UK will be campaigning to Make Child Poverty History. We believe that providing more aid to poorer countries for children helps them out of poverty – the root cause of child exploitation. We are urging governments to commit to giving just 0.7% of their gross national income to international aid.

UNICEF UK launches the last phase of its End Child Exploitation campaign in February 2005. Watch this space for actions to Make Child Poverty History and End Child Exploitation.

End Child Exploitation

Exploitation is a reality for at least 246 million children worldwide. Far from being a time of happiness, carefree play and healthy development, the early years for these children are dark and difficult because of direct exploitation by adults who abuse their innocence and vulnerability.
