Overview

Death is the end of a the life of a living organism. In the death of a human, all body functions and organs top working. Common reasons for death include old age, illness, suicide, murder or injury. In a much broader sense, death can also refer to the end or conclusion of something, especially an abstract idea.

Implications

Death has many several implications. Those close to a person who dies will often mourn the death of a person, and in extreme cases the emotional stress may lead to further deaths. If one partner in a relationship dies, the partner remaining is called a widow (female) or widower (male).

Following a death, a funeral or similar ceremony is usually held. In many religions it is thought death is followed by some form of spiritual after-life. One of the most well-known examples is the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, who were covered and buried in tombs situated in huge pyramid structures. Most monotheists believe in a spiritual heaven, which is not restricted by the physical dimensions of time and space.
