CD-ROMs
The ABC has produced numerous successful CD-ROM titles. Most of these have been produced in collaboration with other key multimedia and cultural organisations. These include:
Bush Tucker Man
This is the first CD-ROM that the ABC produced. The project was based on the popular TV series, 'Bush Tucker Man'. Major Les Hiddins travels from the rainforests of northern Queensland to the west coast of Cape York, surviving on what food he can find. The disc features a database of bush tucker for the region with details on location, identification and preparation of food.
Frontier
Frontier presents stories from white Australia's forgotten war. The double CD-ROM documents the dramatic struggle between Aborigines and European settlers for Australian land between 1788 and 1938. It was based on the ABC TV series and associated Frontier Online website. This CD-ROM was produced by the ABC and Dataworks Australia.
Bananas in Pyjamas - It's Fun Time
The mischievous pair, BI and B2 also have a CD-ROM to their name. This project was produced by Dataworks Australia and Garner MacLennan Interactive in association with ABC TV and ABC Enterprises.
Real Wild Child
This CD-ROM documents the history of Australian rock music and was inspired by the exhibition at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum, 'Real Wild Child'! The CD-ROM was funded through the Federal Government's 'Australia on CD' program and has won many awards. Real Wild Child! was produced by the ABC/ triple j, Pacific Advanced Media, Powerhouse Museum and Mushroom Pictures.
Ingenious
This is an interactive cartoon-style CD-ROM which challenges kids aged 8-14 to investigate real-life Australian science mysteries through a combination of simulated experiments, games and team-work. It was produced by the ABC, Radiant Productions and Questacon.
Ingenious was funded through the Federal Government's 'Australia on CD' program.
Dinosaurs of the Kangaroo's Crypt: Four Billion years of extraordinary Australia!
This CD-ROM tells the story of Australia's early fauna development, offering a comprehensive summary of Australia's biological and geological history. Produced as an educational tool, it also helps promote Australia's past to the wider community both at home and overseas. The project was produced by the ABC, the Australian National Museum, University of New South Wales, the Riversleigh Society and Energee Entertainment and was funded through the Federal Government's 'Australia on CD' program
