The 700 Club Prayer Counseling Centers in Virginia Beach, Va., and Nashville, Tenn., (PCC) are departments of The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) that provide prayer, scriptural guidance, and literature to people through CBN’s telephone prayer line. The centers' phones are staffed by more than 450 prayer counselors who process nearly three million calls a year. They are trained in offering comfort and encouragement from a biblical perspective. Additional workers are added during telethons and other special programming to handle the higher incoming call volume.

STRUCTURE

The PCC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. In addition to serving CBN partners who seek spiritual comfort and guidance, the PCC also provides telephone support during CBN’s annual telethons. On those occasions the PCC activates 100 additional telephones to handle increases of incoming calls. For most CBN partners, the PCC is their first line of contact to the ministry.

BACKGROUND

CBN’s first telethon was held in 1963. After the telethon, telephone lines were kept active as prayer lines. More than 3,500 calls were answered that year. The 700 Club Prayer Counseling Center was established in 1974 to answer calls 24 hours a day. It received 279,902 calls in its first year. At an average of more than 11,000 daily inbound/outbound calls, we anticipate processing well over three million calls this year. This includes thousands of CBN partners who are contacted through outbound call projects on a regular basis.

SERVICES

Basing every call in Scripture and prayer is the primary focus of The 700 Club Prayer Counseling Center. CBN’s prayer counselors listen with compassion to people’s concerns, offer encouraging words from the Bible, and pray for a solution to Partners’ problems. PCC telephone staff also offer callers free literature from dozens of pamphlets covering relevant spiritual topics such as prayer, finances, marriage, salvation, and other subjects that concern our Partners. The PCC undergirds the various outreaches of CBN with intercessory prayer to see CBN accomplish its mission around the world.

STATISTICS

Phone calls to CBN’s prayer line are categorized according to the subject matter discussed during the call. The number of calls to the prayer line and the number of people who made a decision to receive Jesus Christ as Savior have been recorded since 1963. Other call categories have been tracked since 1977. This data is used to measure our progress and strategize for future ministry efforts.
