    Box Office Report - Jan. 21-23, 2005
Ice Cube's first family comedy, "Are We There Yet?," proved to be the biggest draw during a slow weekend at the box office caused by bad weather which kept a lot of would-be moviegoers from venturing outside their homes. Last week's box office champ, "Coach Carter," fell to 2nd place while the much-hyped and critically bashed "Elektra" struggled to remain in the Top 10, finishing in 10th place in just its second weekend of release. British TV Director Takes on "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"
After months of rumors and speculation, Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced they've signed British television director David Yates to helm "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." With Yates' signing, this means the five films of the "Harry Potter" have used four different directors. Chris Columbus directed the first two, followed by Alfonso Cuaron on number three. Mike Newell is currently in production on the fourth movie, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," and David Yates is now confirmed as director for the fifth film of the series.

John Leguizamo provides the comic relief in the action thriller, "Assault on Precinct 13," the ultra-violent remake of the John Carpenter film. Rapper-turned-actor Ja Rule (aka Jeffrey Atkins) co-stars as a convict who loves to refer to himself in the third person. Both actors brought something different to their characters than what was in the script. Here's what Leguizamo and Ja Rule had to say about working with a French director and changing things up:

Talking With the Women of "Assault on Precinct 13"
Drea de Matteo plays a mini-skirt/stiletto-wearing sexy secretary and Maria Bello co-stars as a police psychologist in "Assault on Precinct 13," a remake of the 1976 John Carpenter movie. "AP13" marks the first real attempt at action movies for both de Matteo and Bello, two women who are much more accustomed to serious dramatic work than picking up a gun and playing action star. I recently sat down with the two actresses to discuss why they chose to take a chance on an action movie, what they thought of their "Assault on Precinct 13" co-stars, and how this version compares to the original John Carpenter movie:

2005 Golden Globes - Nominees and Winners
The tone was subdued, the outfits were - overall - pretty classy, and the show itself had very little pizzazz. The 62nd Annual Golden Globes may go down in awards history as one of the most boring shows of its kind. As far as the winners go, there were a few surprises including Clive Owen and Natalie Portman taking home best supporting honors for their roles in "Closer."

Behind the Scenes of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
Writer-director Garth Jennings and producer Nick Goldsmith, the British video/commercial team known as 'Hammer and Tongs', made themselves available for questions from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" fans. Being fans of Douglas Adams' work, Jennings and Goldsmith know how important it is to live up to his legacy and how important it is to satisfy his fans. In Part 1 of this "Hitchhiker's Guide" Q&A series, Jennings and Goldsmith discuss how they got involved in the movie adaptation and how they owe a huge thanks to director Spike Jonze:

    "Elektra" Movie Review
Jennifer Garner headlines the "Daredevil" spin-off "Elektra," also starring Goran Visnjic, Kirsten Prout and Will Yun Lee. As you may recall, Elektra was left for dead in "Daredevil." She's back with a vengeance in "Elektra." A hired killer who is emotionally detached from her work, Elektra takes life very seriously. So seriously that Garner, as Elektra, hardly gets a chance to smile. That's too bad as "Elektra" could have used a little lightening up.

Natassia Malthe (Typhoid Mary) and Will Yun Lee (Kirigi) take on Jennifer Garner in the action drama, and both Malthe and Lee had a blast working on the film. "Racing Stripes" Premiere Coverage
So. California may have been caught in the middle of a heavy rainstorm but that didn't dampen the mood at the World Premiere of "Racing Stripes," directed by Frederik Du Chau. The Premiere served the dual purpose of premiering the movie and raising funds for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a charity supported by many NASCAR drivers. Walking the rain-soaked zebra striped carpet, the stars of "Racing Stripes" and special guest Jeff Gordon discussed the family comedy:

  • "Land of the Dead" Preview
2005's going to be a busy year for John Leguizamo. He's in the 2005 version of "Assault on Precinct 13" and he's got a co-starring role in "The Honeymooners" starring Cedric the Entertainer. Leguizamo also plays a zombie killer, and Simon Baker's best friend, in George A. Romero's "Land of the Dead" set for release in October. While promoting "Assault on Precinct 13," Leguizamo answered a few of my questions about working with Romero and what we can expect from "Land of the Dead:"
