Risky Sexual Behavior Influences FDA Decision Morning After Pill Information. It appears that the Federal Drug Administration is having an internal battle in the fight to allow Plan B, an emergency contraception, to be sold over the counter.
Opponents of the pill say that the drug will encourage teens and women to have unsafe, or risky, sex. They fear that added pressure will be placed on young women to have sex because they can pop a pill the next morning (yet, isn't that what many women do with the birth control pill?!?!?)
Are We Ready For a Pro-Life Democratic Chairman? Indiana Congressman Tim Roemer announced on Sunday that he will campaign for the Democratic National Chairman Committe position. Some Democrats are opposing his bid because he is against abortion. Senator Ted Kennedy said that Democrats must better articulate their support for issues like abortion without compromising their views. Possible New Preeclampsia Test Preeclamspia. A study in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association states that there might soon be a urine test that can detect the pregnancy disorder preeclampsia. The study tested the urine of 120 women who developed preeclampsia and 118 women who did not. The urine of women with preeclampsia showed an extremely low amount of placental growth factor (PIGF). Arkansas Bill to Require Parent Consent for Abortion Teen Abortion Laws. House Bill 1033 by Rep. Jeremy Hutchinson, was introduced on Monday and, if passed, would require written consent by parents for a minor or mentally incompetent person to obtain an abortion. The bill requires notification of the parent at least 48 hours before the abortion procedure, but does contain an exception in cases of incest or to save the woman's life if the parents cannot be found in time.
